Diaper Cover Fabrics
The most commonly used fabrics are PUL or Wool. We make covers with both these fabrics. Both work equally well. We recommend you choose based on your preference for fibers, breathability, care and cost. Listed below are some points that may help you choose. |
Polyurethane laminate (PUL)
- Generally very durable and easy-care
- Often non-breathable and waterproof, construction determines whether bindings or notions will wick moisture. Our binding is made with the same fabric as the cover, providing superior moisture resistance
- Smooth laminate side may be left exposed inside cover, which makes cover easy to wipe off and continue using, just like in our Marvels covers.
- Or the laminate may be sandwiched between two layers of fabric for a sturdier feel, fabric touch against baby, making them thicker and giving them extra "grip" to hold unpinned diapers in place better (e.g., Bummis Super series, Polar Babies covers)
- May retain odor over time

Wool
- Very breathable. Natural fibers
- Needs occasional re-lanolizing, gentle washing and drying
- Often more expensive than other PUL covers
- Can be woven or knit or crocheted, thick or thin, single or multiple layers, pull-on or wrap style
- Urine will evaporate leaving no odor for long periods between washes
